Copeland's welded hermetic reciprocating compressors, the CS family, are developed for commercial refrigeration applications. They had a gas management system on the low side. The steel shell holds cold, low-pressure suction gas that surrounds and cools the electric motor and mechanical compressor components, lowering motor and discharge gas temperatures.
